Hywind Tampen

Foundations for Flotaing Offshore Wind

Hywind Tampen is a floating offshore wind project providing electrification to the Gullfaks and Snorre fields at the Tampen area in the North sea. The project comprises 11 floating wind turbines, each with a capacity of 8 MW. The wind turbines are supported by large floating concrete spar buoys.

Equinor successfully utilized the Hywind concept for a demo (Hywind Demo) and for a offshore wind park (Hywind Scotland) before work on Hywind Tampen began. Hywind Tampen is the first full scale floating offshore park using the concept and is at the time of finish the largest floating offshore wind farm in the world.

The total capacity of the wind park is 88MW, enough to cover approximately 35% of energy need for the 5 platforms it supplies. When finished the park will reduce yearly CO2 emissions from the production on the oil & gas fields by 200 000 ton.

SCOPE OF WORK

Multiconsult was engaged by Kværner (Aker Solutions) to assist in engineering of the concrete foundations for the Hywind Tampen project. During engineering Multiconsult personnel has worked as an integrated team together with Kværner personnel.   Within Kværner’s organization Multiconsult personnel have had the responsibility for the complete geotechnical design (including the suction anchors) and for structural analysis and loads. Further, they have assisted Kværner on concrete design and special topics such as ballasting during marine operations.

Multiconsult’s in-house post-processor MultiCon was used as the main tool for concrete design. Throughout the project Multiconsult has provided Kværner with support for the software.
