We offer network analyses for central, regional and distribution networks and grid connections of power plants. The assignments can be regional/local power system studies or analyses for limited grid facilities. The network analyses include load flow, short circuit, harmonic and dynamic analyses.
The analyses provide defined frameworks for further dimensioning, detailed engineering and specifications of electrical installations. The network analyses are carried out in the calculation tools PSS/E, Paladin DesignBase and NETBAS. We can build models or use established models.
In network planning, Multiconsult can, among other things, assist in establishing a development plan for a network or assess various development alternatives on a socio-economic and/or technical basis.
Motor start analyses, voltage stability and studies of transformer voltage setting are examples of some of the dynamic analyses that Multiconsult performs.
Multiconsult has good knowledge of all relevant regulations and standards for the Norwegian energy supply – Regulations on Quality of Delivery (FOU), Regulations on Electrical Supply Systems (FEF), the Emergency Preparedness Regulations and Functional Requirements in the Power System (FIKS).
Multiconsult has extensive experience in assessing grid connections of wind power plants. Among other things, we have assessed the connection to five of six wind farms at Europe's largest onshore wind power project for Fosen Vind. Here, reactive compensation has been assessed in accordance with Functional Requirements in the Power System (FIKS). The wind farms' contribution to voltage regulation to control the exchange of reactive power between the regional and central grids in summer and winter has also been investigated. In the Egersund wind power plant, we have carried out short-circuit and loss calculations.
Short-circuit calculations are carried out in accordance with IEC 60909 and are carried out for both symmetrical and asymmetrical short-circuit faults. If desired, Multiconsult can further use the results to set or coordinate protection or to dimension grounding systems, switchgear and/or cable systems. Multiconsult has extensive experience in building short-circuit models of electrical systems, mapping worst-case operating scenarios, calculating fault currents, analyzing the results and proposing measures to reduce short-circuit performance if necessary.
Load flow analyses are performed to identify bottlenecks, map losses and determine voltage distribution and power flow in a network. We can also perform contingency analyses to determine how robust the network system is in the event of component failures (N-1 criterion).
