If a construction project is to be rebuilt or demolished, it is a good idea to carry out a reuse survey. This is often also a regulatory requirement. By mapping what already exists, the building materials can be useful and save resources for the project, the climate and nature. At Multiconsult, we work systematically and interdisciplinary with reuse.
Reuse is more than mapping. See also Reuse from A to Z.
In a reuse survey, the possibilities for reusing building materials instead of throwing them away are identified and assessed. This involves mapping their dismountability, condition and remaining life. The aim of the survey is to enable reuse and thereby reduce waste, save resources and promote sustainable practices.
Together with the customer, we define reasonable goals and scope for the survey, in accordance with environmental ambitions and finances. This ensures a sufficient and desired level of detail.
A consulting team is then assembled to carry out the inspection. For a detailed survey, a multidisciplinary team with construction, electrical and HVAC technical expertise is proposed. For overall surveys, experienced generalists with technical resources are offered as sparring partners.
We then collect data such as drawings, FDV and other relevant documents.
A physical survey of the building stock is carried out and reusable building parts are registered with location, quantities and other relevant information.
Together with the customer, we find the most suitable survey tool for the project. Multiconsult is tool-independent and has experience with most solutions on the market.
The results are compiled in a clear report.
The parameters we consider are demountability, residual life, condition, embedded greenhouse gas, available quantities and market demand.
Quantities are counted, measured or estimated based on inspections, drawings, models and other available information.
A multidisciplinary team of consultants provides input and quality assurance of the report.
The entries are categorized using a traffic light model that summarizes the reuse value.
The report is delivered in the desired format.
