Rv 555 Sotrasambandet is a new four-lane road system between Storavatnet in Bergen municipality and Kolltveit in Øygarden municipality. Multiconsult's assignment has included turnkey design of a road in day zones with several multi-level crossings, tunnels and bridge structures.

About the assignment
The contract is a PPP project for the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, which is being implemented by Sotra Link/JCV, for the design, construction and operation of 9.4 km of motorway and the new Sotra Bridge. The PPP contract has a value of 19.8 billion.
Multiconsult and Norconsult have been assigned the design for the turnkey project. Norconsult has designed the new Sotra Bridge, which is a 900 m long suspension bridge over the Vatlestraumen. Multiconsult designed the rest of the road system.
The assignment included the disciplines of road, construction, geotechnics, engineering geology, tunnel, landscape, spatial plan, SØK, VA, electrical and automation, environmental geology, environmental management, phase planning, HSE/SHA, sustainability and climate.
Multiconsult's assignment included 5 km of 4-lane main road in day zones, 6 multi-level intersections, 10.6 km of tunnels and 16 major bridge and culvert structures. 1.6 km of main road on fv. 562 Askøyvegen with one major intersection, 24 km of 2-lane roads, 8.8 km of main cycle path with sidewalks, 500 m pedestrian and bicycle tunnel, 6 km of pedestrian and bicycle paths, retaining walls and longitudinal noise barriers and noise embankments. The new road system will have its own lanes and ramps for public transport, and new access parking lots and public transport terminals will be established at Straume and Storavatnet. A design guide has been prepared for the project.
Multiconsult has carried out the design in the tender phase and through the collaboration and detailed project phase in collaboration with the contractor. Our consultancy assignment was mainly completed 6 months into the construction phase for the main contract, with the exception of follow-up in the construction phase for construction, engineering geology and geotechnics, and rigging and ground protection plans.
