Our history

Multiconsult has roots dating back to 1908. For more than a hundred years, we have contributed to developing Norwegian society as we know it today. Through tens of thousands of projects, we have left a significant mark on the country - and internationally.

Multiconsult's origins date back to 1908 when the Norwegian Water Engineering Office (NVK) was established. The Multiconsult name dates back to 1974 when Sivilingeniørene Apeland & Mjøset AS, which had taken over Ingeniør E. N. Hylland in 1964, was reorganised and became the Multiconsult Foundation as the dominant owner. NVK merged with Multiconsult in 2003, adding valuable expertise to the company within hydropower and the environment - and also laying the foundation for a larger international export of engineering services.

Strong growth

Through organic growth, mergers and acquisitions of a number of small and medium-sized companies, Multiconsult Norway has grown from around 400 employees in 1990 to nearly 3,000 skilled value creators today.

Multiconsult Norge AS is the largest subsidiary of the Multiconsult Group. Together with sister companies LINK Arkitektur, A-lab arkitekter, Multiconsult Polska, Iterio AB and Sitepartner, Multiconsult Norge is a key player in engineering and architectural services in Scandinavia. The Multiconsult group also has a presence in Asia and Africa. The head office is located in Oslo, Norway.

Multiconsult Norge operates within five defined market areas:

Buildings and properties

Buildings and properties is our largest business area. The goal is to become Norway's most attractive partner in forward-looking construction and real estate projects. In addition to being a prominent player in the construction of new hospitals, the focus is on the modernization and transformation of hospitals.

The new National Hospital (Rikshospitalet), Campus Ås, Deichman Bjørvika, the Munch Museum, the Viking Age Museum and large design assignments for the Barcode buildings are some of the many projects we are proud to have worked on.

Energy and industry

Sustainable energy solutions contribute to positive social development. That is why we will seize the business opportunities triggered by the green shift. Multiconsult has over 100 years of experience in the power sector and a long track record beyond Norway's borders, especially in Africa and Southeast Asia.

We have been an important partner for Norwegian industrial construction for more than 100 years, and work on everything from large, interdisciplinary projects with new facilities/renovations, to small single-discipline projects.

As Norway's largest and leading hydropower consulting and engineering company, we have been involved in all phases of hydropower project development for more than 100 years. We provide services in all disciplines related to hydropower.

Since 1970, we have participated in a number of onshore and offshore projects, which has given us extensive experience and high competence to handle all phases of highly complex projects. In addition to providing specialized expertise and interdisciplinary services, we have designed some of the largest structures ever built offshore, as well as charging facilities and terminals. Our valuable experience from offshore construction is now being used in the transition to renewable energy.

Mobility and transportation

We are a large and knowledgeable player in mobility and transportation, where the projects we are involved in will lead the way in a sustainable direction. With a leading professional environment in the design and studies of transport projects, we deliver everything from small parking facilities to the largest road and railway facilities. We are proud to be recognised as the advisor who best understands the management of risks related to the largest cost carriers in transportation.

Water and environment

They work on topics such as greenhouse gas emissions, flooding, and pollution of air, water, and soil, among others. In our work, we aim to develop products and solutions that reduce climate risk and the loss of biodiversity.
